Lol Arthur !!
Reflexology charts are designed thanks to nerve connections, they go through our bodies and finish in hands and feet carrying tightness and pain with them.

I thought monks were only making cats jump ?

Are there "known" reflexology pressure points near the elbow, or is Le Fanu making them up ?

Who make reflexology charts anyways ? Ancient thibetan monks lore ?

Ironically, whilst the standard of the Telegraph's own science journalism deteriorates, they are co-sponsoring the Young Science Writers Awards:

http://www.science-writer.co.uk/

I've noticed recently a few of these types of acupressure bands claiming to cure hayfever, all with pretty much the same MO. Namely, do down conventional treatment, make a big deal of the 'natural - no side effects' (though keep quiet about possibly being no effect at all!), appeal to allegedly long, venerable history of use in China, supply personal testimonies instead of references to well-conducted studies. This site gives some very misleading information about desensitisation, though I admit its bright yellow band is rather snazzier than the Qu-Chi one. But not as amenable to great puns!

Whether the bands work or not considering the "inventor" discovered the effect with a couple of ordinary elastic bands suggests that these will be equally effective. Any reader with an ounce of sense will pop to Smith's and not bother with the ones carrying a stupid name.

Looks like we have to rely on the Grauniad science reporters, that is they can keep the sports reporters in their cage. It would also be good if they let the science bods at least have oversight on the health stories...

As for glass in fingers, having got just such a thing once while cleaning up a lab bench the only way is to do it yourself with a pair of forceps. Only you can do it since it cannot be seen only felt, so only you have the feedback to know when you have touched it with the forceps. The nurse looked at me a bit strangely when I asked for the forceps after she dug around to no effect. Though perhaps it might help if you are not squeamish about your own blood and a bit of pain...

I could have done it up in the lab, but the forceps we used for animal dissections were not exactly sterile...
