The Insidious Pervasiveness of the Cult of Rudolf Steiner

5th July, 2012 163

This morning, we discovered that pharmaceutical companies in Germany that manufacture homeopathic remedies, had being paying shills to discredit critics of alternative medicine. One of the organsiations was Weleda, an anthroposophical health care company founded by Rudolf Steiner. Yesterday, on my blog post on the Steinerist Triodos Bank, a pro-Steiner commenter tried to discredit my interpretation of Steiner’s views on race and geology by calling an academic who had researched [read more…]

Frome Steiner Academy: Absurd Educational Quackery

27th February, 2012 401

Having recently moved to Somerset, and as the parent of a couple of small children, potential future schools are obviously of interest. One that I will not be considering is the new Steiner Academy in Frome. Following the current government’s plans to remove schools from local democratic control and place them in the hands of various private, religious and commercial interests, the Frome Steiner School has received agreement in principle [read more…]

The False Hope of the Hufeland Klinik

11th September, 2016 33

Wales Online reports the tragic story of a two-year old girl with stage-four neuroblastoma. I cannot imagine the emotions the parents must be going through. I am sure if my children were ever in this position, I would consider anything to save them. Such desperation though provides rich pickings for those offering miracle cures and dubious treatments. As a society, we do a very poor job of protecting children and parents from [read more…]

Libel Case: A Statement. Steve Paris & Angel Garden vs Andy Lewis & Melanie Byng

14th July, 2015 0

Three years ago, in February 2012, Angel Garden tried to leave a comment on my first post on Steiner Schools. That comment was held up my moderation queue as it contained a number of external links. Within a short space of time, Angel and her husband, Steve Paris, accused me of censorship repeatedly on twitter, blogs and video. After a somewhat incredible sequence of events, the couple issued civil proceedings [read more…]

Soil Association Trustees Resign over Homeopathy Attacks

29th November, 2014 13

The Soil Association is the marketing organisation behind so-called Organic Farming.  It’s stated aims are to campaign for “healthy, humane and sustainable food, farming and land use.” However, it is routinely criticised for embracing pseudoscientific and dogmatic ideas about farming and animal welfare. Matters have now come to a head as four Trustees resigned from the Soil Association earlier in the month. In a blog post, one of them (Joanna [read more…]

The Society of Homeopaths Have Achieved PSA Accreditation

12th September, 2014 39

Our health care regulators cannot differentiate between a health care profession and a pseudo-medical cargo cult. The Professional Standards Authority has accredited the Society of Homeopaths as a holder of a approved voluntary register of health-care practitioners. The PSA have announced in a press release that, Patients and the public can have confidence in the Society of Homeopaths’ voluntary register which has been vetted and approved by the Professional Standards [read more…]

Ten Reasons why the Society of Homeopaths Should not Receive PSA Accreditation

6th January, 2014 101

The Society of Homeopaths are applying to become accredited as a voluntary professional register with the Professional Standards Authority. Should the PSA approve their application, it will mean that the PSA, rather than ensuring standards in health care, has become a direct threat to public health. The PSA are calling for feedback by the 17th of January on the Society of Homeopaths before they approve them. Perhaps you might want to [read more…]

Homeopaths Embrace Vaccination Against Measles – Or Do They?

17th April, 2013 53

There is no general reason why a child in the UK should suffer measles. We have excellent and safe medical  technology to ensure communities can be free from this nasty disease. And yet, we are seeing hundreds of children in South Wales currently being infected and many being hospitalised. Your favourite Tory MP, Dr Sarah Wollaston, has been concerned about her own constituents in Totnes where full MMR uptake [read more…]

Biodynamic Farming: “A rather magnificent cow-dung ice cream cone”

15th February, 2013 144

More ill-considered tosh from our national broadcaster. This time it’s biodynamic farming. Sitting out on the bonkers fringes of the organic farming movement squats another of Rudolph Steiner’s bastard offspring birthed at a lecture series in 1924. [Follow the link and see what passes for research in some areas of social science. You can tell it’s ‘science’ cos it’s got numbers and some Σ symbols. Maths-tastic!] Among its principles are planting schemes [read more…]

Talks And Events

14th February, 2013 5

I am currently ‘On Tour’ talking about Steiner Schools and government policy. Hope to see you at one of these events. Educational Impostors: The Rise of Pseudoscience in UK Free Schools Michael Gove has stated that Free Schools will not be allowed to teach pseudoscience. But can we trust some of the cult-like organisations running these schools to teach good science is and to refrain from letting their own alternative [read more…]
